Quizmaker 360 lets you organize quiz slides into one or question groups, and you can even randomize the questions so learners see a different sequence or subset of questions each time.
Watch this video demonstration, then follow the activities below to practice.
Practice Activities:
- Create a New Question Group
- Organize Questions into Groups
- Randomize Questions in Each Group
- Lock Individual Questions in Place
Practice Activity: Create a New Question Group
Each Quizmaker quiz has one question group by default, but you can add as many as you like. Let’s practice adding new groups.
- Open PracticeGroups.quiz from your practice files. Two question groups have already been created for you.
- You can expand and collapse question groups so you can focus on certain portions of your quiz. Collapse the two existing groups by clicking the minus sign to the left of each group name.
Tip: Collapsing groups in the question list doesn’t affect your published quiz. - Now let’s add a new group to the quiz. Go to the Home tab on the ribbon and click Question Group. A new question group will appear at the end of the question list.
- Click the name of the new group to open it for editing. Type Nervous System and click Enter on your keyboard to save the new name.
Practice Activity: Organize Questions into Groups
You can create brand new question slides for the new question group you just created, and you can drag existing questions from other groups and drop them into the new group.
For this activity, just drag slide 10 down to the new question group you created so the group isn’t empty.
Practice Activity: Randomize Questions in Each Group
You can randomize questions in each group, and you can even pull a random subset of questions for each quiz attempt. Let’s do both.
- Select the first group in your quiz by clicking its title bar.
- Go to the Home tab on the ribbon and click Randomize Group. Notice that “Randomize all questions” appears beside the group name. We could stop here, but let’s limit each quiz attempt to a subset of questions from the group.
- Use the Include drop-down list on the ribbon to choose how many questions you want to randomly display to learners from this group. Let’s choose five questions for this tutorial. Notice that “Randomize, include 5 questions” appears beside the group name.
Practice Activity: Lock Individual Questions in Place
There may be times when you need to randomize some questions in a group but prevent others from being shuffled. Quizmaker can help with that, too. Just lock a question in place.
You can lock a question to the top of a group, the bottom of a group, or another question in the same group.
- Select the first question in your quiz, then go to the Home tab on the ribbon, click Lock Question, and choose To Top of Group. Notice that a chain icon appears to lock the first question to the group title bar.
- Now let’s lock slide 3 to the bottom of the group. Select the slide, go to the Home tab, click Lock Question, and choose To Bottom of Group. Notice that the question moves to the bottom of the group.
- And let’s say the first couple questions always need to appear together in every quiz attempt. No problem. Right-click slide 2, scroll to Lock Question, and choose To Question Above.
