Rise 360: Embedded Share Links FAQs

On June 8, 2020, Rise 360 content that's embedded in an iframe via its share link will no longer display on your site. Share links themselves will still work after June 8, so you can use them as hyperlinks and send them directly to viewers. 

You'll still be able to export your content for the web or LMS. The only change is that share links can't be embedded in iframes after June 8.

What’s the “share link”?

We give you the ability to get your awesome content in the hands of small audiences quickly with a shareable link. Accessible from within your course, this link is great for showing your progress or getting input from someone that you’re not collaborating within Review 360. It’s not meant to be a long-term hosting solution.

What's an iframe/embed? How do I know if I’ve used one?

An iframe is simply a window that contains content. If you have an iframe that uses code containing our URL, then you’re using a share link to embed the course. See the following example:

If you have a Rise course embedded on your site, but you haven’t exported your course and then uploaded that published output to a web server or LMS, then most likely you’re using the share link in your iframe. 

Are you disabling the share link feature? Can I still use share links after June 8? 

We are not disabling share links. Share links still work and they’ll keep working after June 8, 2020 as a way to help stakeholders preview your course. 

The only thing that’s changing is the ability to embed that link in an iframe. If you’re using the share link in an iframe to embed a course on your website, that content will no longer be viewable on that website as of June 8. We’re doing this to keep your content safe and ensure that no one can use that code to replicate your content or pose as you online.   

Can I still use the share link to share Rise 360 content?

Yes! Share links can still be used to share your content. Just keep in mind that viewing a course via a share link is not a long-term hosting solution. Also, a shared course doesn’t track your learners’ progress. When they leave and come back, they have to start over.

Will this apply to existing iframe content on my site? Does this apply only to courses created after June 8?

If an existing course is embedded in an iframe using the share link, that course will no longer display on your site after June 8. If you see something like the following (what you see will vary depending on your browser), you will need to export the affected course and upload it to a web server or LMS.

If I published my courses for LMS or Web, will they be affected by this change?

No, as long as your iframe contains a link to content hosted on your own server or LMS, it will not be affected by the change. Click here if you need to learn more about embedding links to hosted content in iframes. 

Can I publish a Rise 360 course for Web, xAPI, SCORM, or cmi5 and then place that output in an iframe?

Yes, export packages must be uploaded to a web server or LMS before the link can be used in an iframe. Click here to learn more. 

Can I still use iframes and embedded content inside my Rise 360 lessons?

Yes. You can still embed web content inside your Rise 360 lesson using an iframe, as long as the URL isn't a share link from another Rise 360 course.
