Storyline 360: Full-Screen Toggle
Article Last Updated
This article applies to:
Minimize distractions and boost accessibility in published Storyline 360 courses with a full-screen toggle. Click or tap the full-screen button, as shown below, or press Ctrl+Alt+F to scale the training content to fill the screen. Click or tap the button again to return to normal viewing mode.
Enabling the Player Full-Screen Toggle
Here's how to enable the player full-screen toggle for your learners. In the Controls area of the player properties window, simply mark the Full-screen box. That's it!
Tips:
- To exit full-screen mode, learners can click the full-screen button, press the Esc key, or press Ctrl+Alt+F.
- The full-screen toggle only works in published courses, not during preview.
- When viewing a course in full-screen mode, the full-screen button for videos inserted from a file or website won’t work. Learners must exit player full-screen mode to enter video full-screen mode (and vice versa).
- The full-screen toggle works on desktop computers, Android tablets and phones, and iPads (but not iPhones).
- For iPads, tapping a data-entry field automatically exits full-screen mode due to built-in iOS security features.
Creating Custom Full-Screen Toggles
Create your own full-screen toggle by adding a trigger that toggles the built-in true/false variable Player.FullScreenMode, as shown below. Note that full-screen triggers require the learner to perform an action, such as clicking a button or pressing a key.
Custom full-screen toggles let you display content in full-screen mode when all player controls are turned off. You can even give learners a slide-only experience when you hide the modern player frame altogether.
Compatibility
The player full-screen toggle is exclusive to the modern player in Storyline 360 in the August 2022 update and later. You can open, edit, and publish project files that use this feature in Storyline 3 and earlier versions of Storyline 360. However, the full-screen button won't appear in these versions of Storyline (and the player returns to the classic style in Storyline 3).
The full-screen variable is also exclusive to the August 2022 update and later for Storyline 360. Project files that use this variable won't open in earlier versions of Storyline 360. To restore compatibility, remove any triggers or text objects that reference the full-screen variable.
Install the Storyline 3 November 2022 update or later to restore compatibility with Storyline 360. You can open and publish Storyline 360 project files with the full-screen variable in Storyline 3. However, you can't edit existing triggers that reference the full-screen variable in Storyline 3 or create new ones in new Storyline 3 project files.
