Storyline 360: Requiring Learners to Pass Each Quiz in a Combined Result Slide

Article Last Updated

This article applies to:

Before October 2021, Storyline 360 always accumulated the scores of all quizzes in a combined result slide, regardless of the scoring option you selected. So, if your combined result slide required learners to pass each quiz, learners could get a minimum passing score for each quiz and still fail the entire course.

Thanks to your feedback, we changed how scoring works when you require learners to pass each quiz in a combined result slide. As of October 2021, if the User must pass each quiz option is checked, Storyline 360 adds a new QuizName.Passed variable to the success/failure layers and uses it to determine what's reported. (Learn more about result slides.)

What to Expect

Here’s how the improved scoring method works in new and existing Storyline 360 projects:

Scoring

The improved scoring method includes both a visual and functional change. First, the Combined passing score field no longer displays when you check the User must pass each quiz option, as shown below. Now it only displays when you check the Combine points from each quiz option. (Click the following images to enlarge them.)

Additionally, when you check the User must pass each quiz option in a combined result slide, Storyline 360 generates a new QuizName.Passed variable and uses it to determine what's reported instead of the QuizName.ScorePoints variable. (Storyline 360 still uses the cumulative score when you check the Combine points from each quiz option.)

New Projects

By default, new projects use the improved scoring method described above.

Existing Projects

Existing projects continue to use the cumulative score from the QuizName.ScorePoints variable and behave as they did previously. However, the Combined passing score field now only displays when the Combine points from each quiz option is enabled, as shown above. This is just a visual change.

Easily apply the improved scoring method to an existing project with a combined result slide that requires learners to pass each quiz. Here's how.

  1. Select your final result slide. Then go to the Result Tools—Design tab on the ribbon and click Quiz Settings.
  2. In the Quiz Settings window, temporarily check the Combine points from each quiz option and then switch back to the User must pass each quiz option.
  3. After toggling between the scoring options in the previous step, click OK. The QuizName.ScorePoints variable in the success/failure layers gets replaced with the new QuizName.Passed variable.
