Storyline 360: Detailed Publish Failed Error Messages

Are you having trouble publishing your course? As of September 2024, Storyline 360 provides detailed error messages with actionable guidance to get you back on track quickly. As an additional resource, we compiled a list of common causes for publishing issues and how to fix them in the table below.
Issue | Solution |
Storyline 360 can't find the file. |
The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Check that the file still exists, then try again. |
Storyline 360 can't find the folder. |
The folder may have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Check that the folder still exists, then try again. |
Storyline 360 can't access the drive. |
If you're using a network drive, make sure you're connected to the drive and can access it in the file explorer. |
The folder path is too long. |
Shorten the folder path so it doesn’t exceed 247 characters and try again. |
You don’t have access to the file, or your antivirus software might’ve interfered with the publishing process. |
Check the file properties to ensure you have permission and try again. If that doesn’t help, temporarily disable your antivirus software and try again. |
Your computer is low on memory. |
Close other applications or restart your computer to free up memory, then try again. |
Your computer has low disk space. |
Ensure there’s enough disk space on your machine and try again. |
Storyline 360 can't access the network path. |
Make sure you're connected to the network and try again. If you're using a network drive, make sure you're connected to the drive and can access it in the file explorer. |
The file already exists. |
Go to the File tab on the ribbon, choose Save As, give your project a new file name, then try again. |
The new detailed error messages cover a lot of ground, but sometimes there won’t be a straightforward explanation about what went wrong. In that case, you can still use the optional data-entry field to provide additional information. (To help, Storyline 360 now tells you where the publishing failed in the project.) We recommend sharing as many details as possible about your experience so we can pinpoint the cause of the issue.
