Articulate EU Data Center

Article Last Updated February 20, 2025

To give our European customers confidence that their Articulate 360 content and Reach 360 learner data never leave the EU, we launched a data center in Germany that complements our U.S. data center in northern Virginia. Read on to learn more about our EU data center.

Benefits & Scope

Having an EU data center assures our European customers that their data is kept securely within the EU. It also maximizes GDPR compliance, which is important to us and our customers.

The EU data center stores the following subscription data:

  • All Reach 360 data, including learner info, training content, and reports
  • Articulate 360 course data, including Rise 360 content, Review 360 items, and Storyline 360 team slides
  • Login and profile data for Reach 360 learners and Articulate 360 users

Notable Callouts

Articulate 360 Logins

To support a seamless, global Articulate 360 login experience, we keep a copy of the email addresses and names of Articulate 360 seatholders in the United States for authentication purposes.

  • Articulate 360 login data only pertains to course creators and team admins. It does not include Reach 360 learners. All Reach 360 data is kept solely within the EU data center in Germany.
  • Articulate 360 login data is centrally maintained to authenticate users and direct their sessions to the correct data center.
  • Once European Articulate 360 users authenticate, their sessions and data remain within the EU data center.

Data Migrations

We don't support data transfers between regional data centers. If your subscription is hosted in the U.S. data center, you can’t transfer your data to the EU data center or vice versa.

Choosing Your Data Center

Select a Region During Trial Sign-up or E-commerce Flow

You can host your data in either the United States (Virginia) or the European Union (Germany), no matter where you live or do business. When you sign up for a free trial or purchase a subscription online, we'll auto-suggest the appropriate region (U.S. or EU) based on your IP address. As shown below, you can change the suggested region during trial sign-up or e-commerce subscription purchase.

Buy an E-commerce Subscription

If we assist you with buying a subscription over the phone, we’ll assign the subscription to your chosen data center during the sales process.

Region Selection Is Permanent

You can't change your regional data center after starting your free trial or purchasing an e-commerce subscription, and we can’t migrate your data between regions. If you selected the wrong region, we recommend creating a new subscription in your preferred data center location and recreating your content there.

All Subscription Data Resides in One Region

We store your entire subscription, including course content and learners, in your chosen data center. We can’t split a subscription between data centers.

Seatholders and Learners Can Live Anywhere

Although your subscription data is stored in a specific regional data center (U.S. or EU), your subscription members—Articulate 360 seatholders and Reach 360 learners—can physically live anywhere in the world. No matter where a member lives, their data resides in your chosen data center.

Reach 360 Login Experience

Region-specific URLs

Reach 360 learners sign in to a region-specific URL, which ends in either reach360.com for U.S. subscriptions or reach360.eu for EU subscriptions. For example, the following URLs would take learners to different training environments:

  • U.S. Example: glivy.reach360.com
  • EU Example: glivy.reach360.eu

Mask Reach 360 Subscriptions with Custom Domains

You can mask Reach 360 URLs like those above with your own custom domain. First, create a CNAME record in your DNS records with the following format, including the dot after the hostname:

  • U.S. Format: your custom hostname. 60 IN CNAME custom.reach360.com.
  • EU Format: your custom hostname. 60 IN CNAME custom.reach360.eu.

Here’s an example of a CNAME record for each region:

  • U.S. Example: learn.glivy.com. 60 IN CNAME custom.reach360.com.
  • EU Example: learn.glivy.eu. 60 IN CNAME custom.reach360.eu.

Then, sign in to Reach 360 as the account owner, go to Manage, click Settings, and enter your custom domain URL. Learn more about masking Reach 360 URLs with custom domains.

Articulate 360 Login Experience

Unified Login Experience

All Articulate 360 users sign in to https://articulate.com, regardless of their regional data center. Then one of the following happens:

One User on Two Teams—One Team in Each Region

With the addition of our EU data center, a single Articulate 360 user can have a seat on two teams, provided one team is in the U.S. data center and the other is in the EU data center.

Why might a user need a seat on two teams? Here’s a scenario:

  • Use case: A customer buys a U.S. subscription and an EU subscription. They want to add seatholders to both subscriptions to collaborate with team members in each region.
  • Solution: A user with a single Articulate ID (email address) can be a seatholder on two teams simultaneously as long as one team is in the United States and the other is in the EU. In this scenario, users can switch between teams using a region selector when they sign in to Articulate 360.

Important notes about dual-subscription users:

  • A user can't be a seatholder on two teams in the same data center. Each team must be in a different data center.
  • Users can’t transfer data between the two teams. We don’t support data migrations between regions.
  • A user can invite collaborators to Rise 360 courses as long as the collaborators are in the same data center as the content. However, the user can’t invite collaborators from one data center to work on Rise 360 courses in the other data center.

Desktop Login Experience for Dual-Team Users

To use our desktop-authoring apps like Storyline 360, a seatholder must first sign in to the Articulate 360 desktop app, which relies on a browser-based sign-in experience. When signing in to Articulate 360, a user with a seat on two teams can choose the region they want to sign in to. Then, the Articulate 360 desktop app will match the region the user selected in their browser.

When the user wants to switch to the subscription in the other regional data center, they can sign out, sign back in, and select the other region.

How to Know Which Data Center You’re Signed in To

When you’re a member of teams in both data centers, you can tell which data center you’re currently logged in to by looking at the URL in your browser’s address bar. Most Articulate 360 URLs follow this pattern:

  • U.S. Data Center: https://[app].articulate.com
  • EU Data Center: https://[app].eu.articulate.com

If the URL includes eu, as highlighted above, you’re currently in the EU data center. If it doesn’t include eu, you’re in the U.S. data center. Here are some examples of Articulate 360 URLs in both data centers:

When you’re using Articulate 360 desktop apps, such as Storyline 360, here’s how to tell which data center you’re currently signed in to:

  1. Open the Articulate 360 desktop app by double-clicking the icon on your desktop or clicking the Articulate icon in the system tray (by the clock).
  2. Click your avatar in the upper-right corner of the app and choose Profile & Account.
  3. The account management page will open in your default web browser. Examine the URL in the address bar. If it includes eu, as highlighted above, you’re currently in the EU data center. If it doesn’t include eu, you’re in the U.S. data center.

Reach 360 URLs follow a different pattern that starts with your organization’s name, but the same concept applies. If your Reach 360 URL ends with eu, as highlighted below, you’re in the EU data center. If it doesn’t end with eu, you’re in the U.S. data center. Here’s an example of each:

If you’ve masked your Reach 360 accounts with custom domains, you’ll need to remember which of your custom domains belongs to each data center. If you need assistance, contact us. We’re happy to help!

The Region-selection Screen Can’t Be Hidden or Suppressed

If your Articulate ID is tied to subscriptions in both the U.S. and EU data centers, you’ll see a region-selection screen when logging in, as shown below.

Region-selection screen showing EU and U.S. subscription choices

We can't hide or suppress the region-selection screen while multiple subscriptions are tied to your account. However, we’ll delete old subscriptions six months after they expire, so it's possible the region-selection screen you're seeing will disappear over time. Contact us to discuss your subscription management options.

Using Articulate 360 Web Apps

Reach 360

Because the security and privacy of your learners’ personal information and training data are essential, your Reach 360 data never leaves your chosen data center.

Your Reach 360 data resides in the United States or the EU—never both. You get to choose your data center location. And your Reach 360 data must live in the same region as your Articulate 360 subscription.

The EU data center supports Slack and Microsoft Teams integrations for Reach 360. However, the Zapier integration isn’t available in the EU.

We can’t migrate or transfer your data between data center regions.

Rise 360

U.S. and EU seatholders access Rise 360 by signing in to https://articulate.com and clicking Rise 360 on the navigation bar at the top of the screen. Or, they can link directly to the Rise 360 app in their chosen data center:

Rise 360 users can collaborate with and send copies of courses to other Rise 360 users in the same regional data center. However, Rise 360 users can’t collaborate with or send copies of courses to Rise 360 users in a different regional data center.

Review 360

U.S. and EU seatholders access Review 360 by signing in to https://articulate.com and then clicking Review 360 on the navigation bar at the top of the screen. Or, they can link directly to the Review 360 app in their chosen data center:

All Review 360 content, including Storyline 360 backup files, is stored in your chosen data center. Everyone can view your Review 360 content, assuming you’ve given them permission. However, anyone who needs to access Storyline 360 backup files must have an Articulate account in the same data center as the course author.

Content Library 360 & Rise 360 Business Content

We’ll continue to host Content Library 360 stock assets and Rise 360 business content in the United States. When EU customers import these assets into their courses, we’ll store them in the EU data center as part of their course content.

Articulate 360 Training

Articulate 360 Training helps you grow your e-learning development skills but doesn't contain customer data. So, U.S. and EU customers use the same training site hosted in the United States.

Managing Your Account

While we have separate U.S. and EU versions of Articulate 360 apps, all Articulate 360 subscribers use the same account management console since our Okta authentication subprocessor resides in the United States.

Only the account management console is the same for both regional data centers. Your Reach 360 learner data, Articulate 360 course content, and login information reside in your chosen data center. EU subscribers can have confidence that their content and learner data never leave the EU.

Add Articulate 360 Endpoints to Your Allowlist

EU customers must add the following EU-specific network endpoints to their allowlists for Articulate 360 and Reach 360 to work correctly. There are additional network endpoints in this article that must be allowed whether the subscription is in the EU or the United States.
